Figure 7: A Comparison of the Effects of Percentage Concentrations of NaCl and KCl on Cellular Specific Gravity. The data follow almost exactly the same slope. It should be noted that KCl is more inhibitory than is NaCl because the highest concentration in which E. coli will grow is less for KCl than for NaCl. Yet, the slopes do not reflect that fact.
Figure 8: A Comparison of the Effects of Molar Concentrations of NaCl and KCl on Cellular Specific Gravity. Here the KCl slope indicates that K+ is indeed more inhibitory - although only slightly - on a per-ion-particle basis than is Na+.
