| Figure 4: | Survival Curves of Complex Soil Bacteria in Shampoo-Dosed Water. Four drops of three different commercial shampoo formulations demonstrated their broad-spectrum abilities to kill the vast array of soil bacteria. A shampoo (red) containing cetrimide (aka cetavlon) essentially sterilized water of bacteria in 10 minutes, while one (blue) containing another quaternary ammonium compound called poly-quaternium-10, was slower yet killing approximately six logs in that same 10 minutes. A shampoo (black) of refractometrically the same solute concentration but containing no "quats" was nonetheless able to kill about 4 logs in those 10 minutes. Plate counts on nutrient agar were used. |
