Chem 102 Lab
Week #13 (12 April 2007)
MULTIDISCIPLINARY CHEMISTRY
This is the third week of a unit dealing with making useful products. This is the schedule for this week:
- Some answers to last week's take-home quiz.
- On Tuesday, to my office turn in whatever you have accomplished on the extended questions from the previous week's quiz - questions 4, 8, 10, 11 and 12. On Thursday we will go over those answers while some of our preparations are "cooking" in lab.
- On Thursday, turn in this week's take-home, group, open-book quiz.
- You will stop your fermentation reaction, determine how much of the sucrose is gone using polarimetry, and then set about isolating the various components. Some of you will want to isolate glycerol from it, along with the ethanol that was produced.
- You will also return to last week's preparation and isolate the glycerol from it.
