Chem 102 Lab
Week #14 (19 April 2007)
MULTIDISCIPLINARY CHEMISTRY
As in most endeavors, most of the action is found at the interfaces of subject areas. Thus we continue with biochemistry - indeed with biophysical chemistry. Three interfaces!
This week we shall isolate DNA from strawberries and then study one property of double-stranded DNA - namely, the physical property of viscosity.
- Regarding your recent lectures with Dr. Faile, go back to an old practice problem set and see if it makes more sense now. Problem Set 10 (Did Faile tell you about the trick with weak acids and bases - you must use water and the hydronium ion (H3O+), and that [water] is 55 molar?)
- On Thursday, while the pot is cooking, you will have a closed-book quiz. (Screem; Horrors!)
- Print out: Isolation of Strawberry DNA
Please work in groups of two.
- And guess what we are going to do with the leftover strawberries!!!!!!!!
