A CALL FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION!

PREVIOUSLY: The previous "Call" for projects resulted in two students' joining and expanding upon projects done by other students, with the result that their combined findings were presented at the 2003 annual meeting of the world's largest professional society dealing with a basic science - the American Society for Microbiology. Their work was also presented at the 2003 annual meeting of the Virginia Academy of Science. These students were then helped by four more newcomers, one a high school teacher. Their results open the door to what you can do.

TWO NEW "CALLS":

1. A study of stress effects on the genetic level
   E.coli will be subjected to various stresses, and the effects of those stresses on lac-operon expression will be studied.

2. A technology problem: how to design public buildings so that they are less prone to spreading diseases
