Lactase Quantification Project

This project was completed by two Brooklyn NY high schoolers, Diana and Lena, and preliminary results were reported at the 2003 annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology (really, an "international" society numbering more than a dozen Nobel laureates as well as more than 80,000 other professional scientists. Diana and Lena were most likely the youngest coauthors presenting at that meeting, which was held in Washington, DC.

Their work was also presented at the 2003 annual meeting of the Virginia Academy of Science, which was held in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia.

IN BRIEF

They demonstrated that competitive inhibition of lactase previously shown in vitro by students listed in the blue winners' circle on the home page was also true in vivo.
