| Main Exercise |
Teacher:
- Purpose: to teach ELECTROPHORESIS and, using the vehicle of PATERNITY testing, to introduce the student to restriction endonucleases.
- Preparing the paper chromosomes for the students to use:
- Get two sheets of letter-sized paper in each of nine differently colors
- Print each of the following nine sets of "chromosomes" on their own distinctively colored paper. (Open each of the following links and print two sheets of each.)
- Chromosome 1
- Chromosome 2
- Chromosome 3
- Chromosome 4
- Chromosome 5
- Chromosome 6
- Chromosome 7
- Chromosome 8
- Chromosome 9
- Cut the ten or so strips out of each page (a paper cutter works very well for this).
- Sort the colors out and place in boxes or envelopes for the students to use.
- One scissors for each pair of students.
- Need 1 sheet of graph paper per group (like that on page 79 of the graph paper book*
