This fun project can help you understand what scientists are saying about how tall trees get water up to their highest leaves.     Yet others say that trees cannot allow air bubbles to get in because it will break the water column and the leaves will go thirsty.
Some say the leaves suck the water all the way up to the tops of tall trees. Other scientists don't agree. They believe that no one can suck water up more than 32 feet even when using powerful pumps.

Of course you can drink from a straw that has air bubbles in it: you slurp up the last drops of your soda. But just how high can you suck that bubbly water? Find a tall stairwell - maybe 5 floors high - and try sucking "flat" soda and fresh, fizzy soda. See how high you can get both of them to go.
