| Make a slippery boat!
We all know that the the more streamlined the shape of a boat's hull is, the easier it goes through the water. But now consider a slippery boat! The hint words are hydrophilic and hydrophobic (dictionary?). If the boat's surface is hydrophilic, the water will cling to it, but if it is hydrophobic, it will repel the water and slip through the water easier. So if you compared a hydrophilic hull with an identical hydrophobic hull, you'd know if you were "onto something - BIG!"*
| You'll need to DO THIS:
- You need to have a boat - even a small bathtub model will work!
- You must invent a way to measure the resistance that boat has to moving across the surface of water**
The hull must be able to be made interchangably hydrophobic or hydrophilic
- Teachers like graphs! Make graphs of your resistance measurements.
- Judges like photos! Use your camera!
